More About Me
For me, cinematography splits into two key philosophies. Creating a well-exposed image using my professional camera gear, is (ironically) only half the picture. The other half is how cinematography should not only look pleasing to the eye, but also supports the underlying script in a way that feels intentional. Everything, from focal distance, shutter and aperture, lighting placements and camera movements all evoke unique emotional responses to audiences through common tropes and conventions shown to them through the wider industry. As a cinematographer, my job is to tap into these codes and conventions, using them to my advantage and sometimes, even bending the rules a little bit when creative input is required.
I also love to edit. This is where a large part of a film's identity can be born, and through plenty of experience I understand how this identity/style can be matured through how the film is cut, color graded, and effectiveness of SFX and VFX to elevate a scene. Primarily using Adobe Premiere Pro, I can edit complex multi cam projects, creation and use of proxy footage to speed up workflow and audio syncing with confidence. I am also proficient an many other softwares, including DaVinci Resolve, After Effects and Blender.
A special niche of mine involves drones. I use a DJI mini 4 Pro to serve my aerial cinematography needs. This drone acts like a stable camera in the sky, capable of smooth dynamic movements, opening opportunities for different filmmaking techniques. Operating within UK airspace can sometimes be legally challenging, so I always plan ahead, scouting spots, creating flight plans to ensure I am handling this technology in an appropriate and legal way.
